The Dinka people have been made famous by photographers and anthropologists returning with dramatic photographs about the Dinka cattle culture.
From Juba, we take you to the town of Bor as a base to work out and see cattle camps.
For the Dinka cattle are the bases for all wealth and are central to their spiritual life. Dowries are paid in cattle usually 100 head for a wife.
Young boys sleep with the cattle to guard them against thieves and Lions. In times of pressure from other clans and tribes, the cattle are guarded with AKS, cattle rustling is common. Songs are composed of their favorite bull. Large barns are built for the cattle in the wet season
Day 1 - Pick up at your hotel at about 8 am and drive north 203 kilometers on a dirt road for 3 hours.
Check-in at the Freedom Hotel In Bor. Have lunch and then head out to visit cattle camps close to Bor. Return to the hotel by nightfall for dinner.
Day 2- After an early breakfast depart the hotel with a picnic lunch to spend the day visiting cattle camps.
Every year the cattle camp locations change. We will range north as far as Jongeli on the edge of the great Sudd swamp. Return by nightfall to the hotel for dinner
Day 3- Bor - Departure
After an early breakfast go east of Bor to visit villages, returning to the hotel in time for lunch. Drive south to Juba arriving by nightfall at your hotel.
